This shot is the new film area at Yodobashi Camera (Shinjuku main store) as of a few months ago. Believe it or not, it's now actually about three times smaller than before.

But it's still about a gazillion times larger than what I'm used to see.

Still quite impressive, for sure! At its previous size I hadn't seen anything quite like it elsewhere. After its downsizing to the current size, its now on par with what Yokohama and other stores used to be. It was actually quite a shock for us locals to see the film section downsized that much. The same downsizing happened at Yodobashi in Yokohama and other stores. Yokohama is only a third of the size it used to be as well.

Yodobashi at Shinjuku used to look like this:

Have you seen the wall of film at Silverprint in London, behind the counter? Not quite on that scale but pretty impressive all the same.

I was a little saddened by the change

I go to the main store every time I go back to Japan. I was a little upset that it was smaller when I went back in July and they seem to have done away with the second floor with all the darkroom equipment. Now there it seems they only keep a little corner of chemicals on the ground floor. I guess they could have moved the darkroom stuff somewhere else. I get pretty confused/lost the way the store is spread out over several buildings.

At least my favorite ramen shop hasn't changed. 😛

Wow - That's more film in one store than in my whole state of Montana. The kicker is that there's probably still some 120 Neopan 400 in there somewhere.

My favorite section of Yodabashi! Every time I am in Tokyo I do a pilgrimage and pick up film, lot's of film. The next trip will be in November - and yes, Yodabashi is high on the list, some 100 ft cans of whatever catches my fancy and 50-60 rolls for shooting right then.
With the yen at 75 to the $ - not the bargain it used to be - but the selection is unmatched.
