Hi!
I have just bought an Olympus XA and it seems to be working. However the shutter release sometimes gets stuck in pressed down mode. Im thinking that some thin oil should do the trick. But since I dont know how the shutter release is build I thought I should check with you experts first!
Can oil do any harm to the shutter release? What kind of oil would you recommend?
Thanks!

I've never taken it apart, but from what I hear, I think you need to take the top off (just the red shutter plate) and sand it. It. Something. I don't know exactly what. It's just what I heard -
I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, but I mainly want to say that it's better to wait for an experts opinion, because I certainly wouldn't just put oil in it.

Oil is not appropriate for the XA shutter button as it is electric, not mechanical.

Ok, thats what i was afraid of.
How close is the electrical parts to the red shutter release button? If you use only a very small amount of oil around the edges of the shutter release button so that it doesn't interfere with the electrical parts?

How many is enough?
Frank is correct, oil is not appropriate, the release is electronic. There is an electrical pad directly under the red shutter button. The answer was and is- NO OIL, so a little around the edges would STILL be the wrong way to go.

Here's a repair manual: http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/repairmanuals.html. Scroll down to Olympus XA. I haven't read this manual, but it should be informative.
