Just a few minutes ago, for some strange impulsive reason, I decided to make a lighthearted smart@$$ reply to Joe's thread on the accessory bag. I entered it as:

Uh, so, Joe, which mascara do you like best? :)

{ducking - running - hiding) :)

... with the exception that I used a closing curley brace after "hiding".

When I hit save, it showed up as:

{ducking - running - hidin*** :)

I edited it, thinking maybe I typo'd it. Nope, same thing. Tried again, same.

Then I replaced the closing brace with a close parenthesis and it came out more or less ok.

Any ideas?

Maybe try changing the first curly brace as well and see if that helps. Maybe the forum software is trying to interpret the text between the braces as some kind of code.

Other than that, I got nothin' :)

I guess it's forum software. Usually there is a rules how to put special symbols, images etc into forum page. I can't find it here. Normally if you type semicolon and brace you get smile, doesn't it suprise you? :)

g and } next to eachother will give ***

actually, type &#8727 ; without the space before the ;

Thanks Rich, I was going nuts playing with combinations to figure this one out. I may do computers, but I'm a hardware/OS guy, not a web guru :)

Reminds me of the old WWIIOnline forum filters...

"Asshat" (<- filter translated insult)
"Chickenpit" (<- filter translated area where a human sits to fly a plane)
"Dobodyfluidentation (<- "Documentation")
And LOTS, LOTS MORE!
Ah, for the bad old days...

:)
