Old BW portrait photographer article.

Great link, thanks, surprising pictures and nice video. The power of photography, the strength of portraits...

I like this picture. The Mom is looking at her family in the future, and the girls have almost smiles, while the boys are very serious.

I really like this face on posed style of photography from this era. Due to necessity the subjects tended to be quite frozen and the whole atmosphere is formal and controlled.

It makes it quite unique IMO.

I wonder how many of these images were shot on old-style ortho-chromatic film ?

Just from the images included in the Daily Mail article, all subjects are presumably caucasian, but in the earlier ( plate?) photos, the skin tones are very dark.

I'm sure the farmers all had heavy sun-tans, but the skin tones seem to be darker than would be rendered with Panchromatic film ?

Disfarmer sounds like quite a character... he's going on my reading list. :)

This is the Wedding day picture of my mother's parents...I never met them and it's the first time I've seen my mom's father...taken April 28, 1929...no smiling here...

And "hand-colored?" Am guessing. I still have a box these pigments, oil, and unopened as I recall...lost art...my mom used to practice the art.
