I just bought this lens last weekend just because of the snap focus functionality, but I was kinda disappointed to realize that it focuses to infinity halfway between the 3m and infinity mark on the lens.
I feel this throws off the entire DOF scale.
Is anyone having the same issues, and what are the workarounds if applicable?

Not sure what you mean...are your photos out of focus when you try to shoot something that is at "infinity" distances? You sure it's not just going to the "hyperfocal" distance?

What I mean is this: the distance markings on the 17/1.8 is not accurate - when I align the snap focus ring at exactly infinity it is not achieving perfect infinity focus. This is unlike my other lenses, if I put it in infinity (or any other distance), I am absolutely sure that it is focused at that distance. Not so with the olympus.
I might be nitpicking but if Olympus includes a distance scale, I expect it to be accurate, and not be just some gimmick. Hopefully a firmware update can solve this issue.

Sounds like sample variation. Is it under warranty?

For a 17mm lens (34 fov), anything past 5 city blocks is essentially infinity.. When u manually focus on something out that far, where does the focus scale line up? Is it before, after or on the inf mark?
