I am trying to get my wife's Olympus OM-10 SLR going again after it has languished in the closet for about 10 years.

I cannot get the shutter to fire nor will the advance lever move.

The battery appears to be quite dead.

Is it "normal" for the shutter & film wind to appear "jammed" when the battery goes flat ?

Thanks...

I think I read that the OM10 is an electronically shuttered camera, so yeah, the shutter would not work without a battery.

Sounds typical of dead batt. The mirror usually locks halfway up when the batts fail in use, yours is probably down to lack of use - batteries dying while camera is laid up.

Thanks all, for the replies.

I pulled the batteries and they are very dead; they were VARTA V-76 PX.

Will see if my local Ritzcamera has some replacements...

The shutter will probably fire as soon as the new batts make contact. Yhis has happened to all my OM10s (I've had/have a few) :)
