Just picked up a cheap 70-150 but it doesn't seem to reach infinity, its a hard infinity stop so not sure if its meant to be like that and infinity is quite close on this lens not even sure that would work. So at infinity the split image does not line up.

Mine has no such problem. Unfortunately, it sounds like your lens has a element separation problem, which affects some of these zooms. Alot of criticism of this lens' performance is actually a result of this problem. I suppose you could get it fixed, but the cost may not be worth it to you.

Yes its a shame as they are not worth the cost of fixing.
