Hi. This is my first post on Rangefinder (although I have been lurking for some time!).

I have acquired a Pen EE, which is very mint externally, and the red flag seems to move when put in dim, or very bright light, so I am hoping that the selenium meter works OK.

However, I need to look at the light seals as these have detiorated.

The whole back slides off and there is one long seal acress the bottom. I was wondering if anyone with a Pen EE could confirm there is just one seal?.
I cannot find any seals, or seal residue along either the top or sides of the camera.

Also, are the seals reesonably easy to apply?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer!

Regards

Carl

On the Pen viewfinder cameras I have worked on (all non-EE cameras) there is a foam seal in the grove formed by the top plate and body casting. I'm not sure it is a necessary item though. The bottom seal on the back is necessary. I've had a Pen D show light leaks until I replaced that seal. I've never owned an EE or had one apart however.

Zuiko85,

Thanks for that. I had not realised there was a seal at the top. The bottom seal is a really weird shape, but I think there is a replacement kit for it. It comes from a guy in Japan, and should be here in a week or two.

Until the kit arrives, I am going to put a piece of black electrical tape across the bottom of the camera after I have put some film in. That should keep the light out. The way the case slides together suggests there is a bit of overlap which helps keep the light out.

I will post the results here.

Hi Carl,

I just want to welcome you in this forum. There are some very knowledgeable people in here who will provide you with an answer.
I am not an expert but I usually buy black felt from arts & crafts shops such as Hobbycraft and they do work fine with the cameras I've tried it (although i never owned a Pen).

I ran some film through the Pen and the shots were all overexposed and virtually none were useable.

In the end, I returned it to the seller.

That was the end of that!

I now have an Agfa Paramat - see my separate post for details!

Carl

All overexposed? Might mean that the camera is stuck on the 1/40th speed, even for sunny environments.

I'm still running through my first roll. Takes a surprisingly long time for me to run through even 48 exposures.
