Hi guys,
I'm new here, so I'll be very very thankful for every reply.
I bought an XA for about 30pound. The camera is in good condition and working well. However, the film winding mechanism is broken. The sprocket thing doesn't move. When I rewind the film it just wouldn't go. I've heard this problem before. My question is;

1. is it fixable? I heard the only way is to replace the entire mechanism?
2. Can I salvage this winding part from Olympus XA1 or XA2? They go for peanut on ebay. Has anyone ever try this solution?

Thank in advance for your help guys!

Not seeing the camera, it's hard to tell. But I've seen several XA where the gray wind gear in the bottom (held in by clip) starts to crumble where the notches are that engage the sprocket. The only fix is to find a good XA of the same vintage that you can take a good gear out of. New replacement gears are NLA. XA-2 is different and XA-1 is completely different. John

John that is exactly the problem. I reckon I would not be able to find the replacement and tried to fix it myself, resulting in the ultimate destruction of the camera. Nevertheless I got a nice XA rangefinder mechanism handy.
Thanks a lot guys!
