I just realized that my OM-1 has no film reminder box on the back. I think this looks way better. It makes everything look much cleaner than pictures I have seen of camera's with the reminders.

So if I get a camera with a reminder (I'm in the market for an OM-4ti and 50/1.2 and 28/2) does anyone know if the film reminder part is removable? Is it just glued on like some of the badges (MD badge on my 1) or is it actually stuck on there with screws and stuff?

Second question, if I remove the MD badge from my OM-1 is there any different in the shape of the leather on the camera if I get it replaced?

I'm thinking of ordering some grey griptack and some black. Ideally I'd like to be able to just hold it up to the camera and figure out that way which one would be better on the OM-4 and which one would be better for the OM-1. So are they interchangeable (assuming that I remove the MD badge and ignoring the differences in the film reminder box) or are there other differences? (The one place that I'm worried about is the self timer).

Oh and in case John sees this, is it possible to put an OM-4ti self timer cover on an OM-1 or are they different (because I see you have the OM-4 timers for sale), the newer ones look cleaner, if you don't see this than I'll email you.

Oh also are there covers for the OM-1 hot shoe mount? I assume no1 leaves these on the camera, they're sexier without them. Is there a cover to keep gunk out? Or do I just blow it out of there every once in a while?

I picked up a black OM4-Ti that the owner had removed the film reminder from. He removed it with a Dremel 🙂eek🙂. I ended up getting a leather kit from aki-asahi.com, using one of the kits intended for the style of OM1 that matched the modified OM4-Ti. It looks great.

hello,
correct me if i am wrong, but wouldn't a door of a Om1n would fit the back of the om4ti? i have seen in the past om4's without the reminder on the door.

This is pretty much what I am wondering... Just wanted to know if anyone can confirm or deny it for certain and to confirm that some of the OM-1n's actually came without film box holder

I was able to exchange the doors of my OM-4Ti and OM-1 without a problem. There should thus be no problem with you doing the same.

(My OM-1 came w/o a film reminder, my OM-4Ti came with a film reminder. Now the backs have changed places.)

I know that some of the original OM-1's came with a smaller pressure plate for the film, does anyone know how to tell which one's are smaller and which one's are the big ones?

Also does anyone know if there is a difference in the leather? If I buy camera leather will the leather for an OM-1 assuming no MD cutout properly fit a 4ti?

I should probably just email camera leather

So the doors are interchangeable, leather not so much. Now new question, would the dials from an OM-1n fit on an OM-1 MD? I have a chrome OM-1 MD, sexy beast but the dials are too flashy, Ideally I would like to pick up a black OM-1 take the top dials, put them on the OM-1 and take the back off and out it on my OM-4ti.

Is this possible?
Thanks,
Chris

The oldest OM-1s will not accept new back covers properly. Look in old film chamber for 4 chromed guide pins, 2 on each side of shutter curtains. Attaching new style back cover will have pressure plate riding up on 2 of these screws. Newer cameras have only 2 guide screws near film cassette. One option is to remove 2 screws next to takeup spool and fill holes with glued-in set screws. 4T self timer cover will not fit OM-1 through 2N. Collar around asa knob is threaded and glued on. Some are impossible to get off. Newer ones have plastic inner collars which have to be cut off to change collars. This has to be done sometimes for people who force the asa setting without pushing the lock button down (which breaks the locking pins off inside). John

A big thank you to John Hermanson for this information. I had installed a door from a u/s OM2 on my old OM1. I have always been disappointed with the sharpness of the images from this camera. Now I know why! I've just put the original door back on and will try a new test roll.

I use the flash shoe.

I use the flash shoe.

On any camera that I have used without a film reminder holder, I take the end of the film box and cut a piece with the pertinent information so that it snugly fits in the hot shoe. Has worked for me for years. Besides it's easier to see the top of the camera for the film reminder than on the back.

I have a black OM-1 that is a parts camera. Thinking about using the top to change a chrome body to black. Only problem is some moron etched his name into the bottom plate, so don't have a complete conversion to black. Anyone have a black bottom plate.

Having owned a lot of Zuikos, including the 21/2, 24/2, and 100/2, I can tell you for certain that you will not regret that setup. Those two lenses, along with a late version 35/2 and 85/2 are what I have finally settled on. Awesome lenses.

I really like griptac, and have put it on two different OMs. It's easy to install, and does help the handling.
