Anyone using OM lenses with those Leitax adapters? You like 'em? Someone was selling an OM 50/2 macro here and it got me thinking about adapting some OM lenses to my Nikon F... Not that I need more lenses, but there's a few lenses in the OM family that look appealing.

I'd be curious about this also because I'm seriously thinking of getting a couple of Leitax adapters myself. Being able to use a few of my favourite Zuikos on my D700 and just aquired F6 would be a bonus. My 50mm f1.2 and 85mm f2 come to mind here!

The OM lenses I have don't merit a Leitax adaptor (I do have a similarly-converted summicron 50 though), but I would be seriously tempted if I had any of the better or faster lenses.

The Letax adapter does become part of the lens and has to be removed and the original flange re-fitted to allow use on an OM body ... that could be tedious even there's only three screws involved!

And I'm not about to buy a spare 50mm f1.2! 😛

You know, all these adapters for nikons, canons and evils have driven up the demand for OM glass which is not being replaced with new stock. I get sick inside when I scroll through hundreds of adapter listings on auction sites. That 90 f2 macro just keeps getting further and further away. 🙁

Along with the OM-3ti. 🙁

I know what you mean about the lenses ...some of the OM glass is becoming a little rich for my blood. It amazes me that the Leica crowd (some of them) will happily spend $6000.00 on a lens. I'm currently deliberating about getting a 24-70 FG for work for my D700 but I'm having a lot of trouble getting my head around the $2000.00 price tag!

this is exactly what happened to the wonderful Takumar lenses for us Pentax users. the price has gone through the roof for glass, that is being used more and more on canons, nikons, m4/3, etc. it hurts seeing bog standard 50 and 55mm lenses being sold for near 100 dollars, let alone some of the more originally expensive lenses like the 17 and 24mm. I get back at some of them though by using old nikkors on my pentax without adapters that most nikon users can't properly use.😛

Do the Zuikos have auto aperture when converted to a Nikon?

As nice as some Zuikos certainly are, I would have to think twice before using a fully manual aperture lens on a Nikon when there are plenty of "good enough" Nikkors, Cosina Voigtlanders and Zeiss ZF's available. The Zuiko 21/2.0 is very cool but would be a pain in the a$$ to use at f-8.0 constantly stopped down.

I'd only do it with lenses that I particularly like the look of wide open which is why I mentioned the 50mm f1.2 and the 85mm f2.

Stop down metering is not my thing! 😀

nothing is safe.

people are carving out their 5d mirrors to use the rokkor 58mm f1.2

in a way it's good because the resale value of mine continues to climb but I would rather be able to cheaply purchase a replacement =/

also 1300 dollar DR crons hurt me inside. I wanted one SO badly but ultimately just spent the 800 on the Zeiss 50/2. Had I been able to get one for 900 total to get a nice copy I would have done it.

From what I can tell via leitax.com it's all stop down metering.

from the website: -This conversion is fully reversible and will not damage either the lens or the camera.
-The Olympus-OM lenses will focus to infinity and will maintain the aperture click stops
-The Nikon cameras will show a focus confirmation light in the viewfinder.
-The professional Nikon cameras (D200 and up), and FujiFilm S5Pro, will meter in A and M modes (stop-down).
-Users of non professional Nikon cameras (D40, D60, D80, D90, etc) can select Manual mode and check the histogram of a test shot to meter accurately.

Regarding the infinity focus ... I read some internet chatter that claimed you could not focus a Nikon to infinity with a Zuiko lens fitted. I contacted Leitax via email and he responded very quickly to confirm that this was untrue.

I'll definitely be ordering a couple of adapters in a week or so and will probably post a report and some images from my D700 with the 50mm f1.2 in particular!

You don't have to, but there is a serious issue of convenience with wide open metering for AI & AF Nikkors and the whole auto focus thing that the F6 excels at compared to, perhaps, the F3 or FM3A. It is a beast which is why I never had one but the Nikon 24-70/2.8 is often paired with a D700 for a reason, convenience and quality.

The Zuikos will be the play lenses for the F6 and D700.

For work (gallery stuff etc) a 24-70 f2.8 G is in the pipeline and of course I have the two Zeiss primes ... 35mm and 50mm. I may replace the 35mm Zeiss with the 35mm f1.4G at some stage finances allowing! I do like a 35mm prime on the D700 and the extra stop of speed over the Zeiss that the Nikkor offers will actually be useful at zero EV.

I use my OM 50mm f1.2 on a 5D2 and a NEX5N. If my experience is anything to go by, you're going to love it.
