I was snapping away this morning doing some street, and all of a sudden my M8.2 just powered off!!! I think my heart powered off also a minute there!!!
I made several attempts to switch off and on without success. I removed battery and memory card and reinserted, then tried to switch on and again, no success. All I get is the small red light momentarily beneath then LCD, and the nothing.
I was snapping away a lot and was out for about an hour in 28 degrees. The camera felt ice cold to the touch but I don't think that can have any affect.
The camera has suffered no impacts. I carry this thing like I used to carry my new born kids. It's always in a neoprene Zing waist pouch.
Please send help immediately someone!!!

Happens to me a lot when it's too cold, I put the battery in the charger and the camera turns on fine once it's charged. Same symptoms, by the way, also only the red light that flashes.

Wow... is there a fix for this?

Well I'm not entirely sure, I think the battery is just empty when the camera turns off. It only takes little time in less-than-zero weather. I just ordered more batteries, hoping that solves the issue.

Just talked to Leica NJ this morning. I was told that I will have to wait 3 month to get my M8 back due to high work volumes!! I asked them to ship it back to me without work performed.
So hope you will be lucky if you plan to use leica NJ to service your M8.2.

This whole thread brings up what ought to be rule no. 1 for any M8 or M8.2 user: Always carry a spare battery.
I've now used four of these cameras at one time or another, and they all have exhibited this type of behavior. I've attributed some of it to a poor battery life indicator.
But I never leave home without at least one extra battery for mine.

Sounds like a cold and/or dead battery. Do you have a spare to keep in your pocket and rotate them out?
I'm going to order some additional batteries for sure. I don't want that happening again. I'm just very glad it was the battery. I immediately envisioned me boxing up the camera and shipping off to Germany for repair.

Another note: When I put the battery on the charger, the charger 80% light lit immediately with green blinking. After 30 min or so I had a steady green indicating a completely charges battery. So I don't think the battery was completely dead. Evidently the cold had an effect on the camera and or battery.
