Jaap thanks for the link. He is definitely good. Here's a link directly to his site for non-members of the Leica users forum:

Here's the interview they are discussing on LUF.

"I didn't ask you what your teacher thought of it. I asked you how it came out." That's the most important thing I've read in awhile.

He's an excellent photographer. Not sure I care what camera he uses, those are great images on his site. I have no doubt his M8 stuff will be equally as good.

I agree that Walt Odets' images are terrific. Who are these other "great photographers" who have joined "the M8 ranks"?

I don't think I have the credentials to declare him "great", as evidently others on this and the other Leica forum think they do. All I can say is, I like his work.
That said, I have never heard of him before today. Neither has my golfing buddy I called who owns a prominent Chicago gallery. According to the curriculum vitae on Mr. Odets' website, his last photographic show was in 1980. He also says he shoots in b&w so the IR and WB defects of the M8 aren't important to him.
I don't want to assume into fact what the motive was for Mr. Odets' trumpeting his decision to buy an M8 on the Leica User Forum, nor what the motive was for trumpeting that fact here. I suspect there is still a considerable way to go before the number of acclaimed photographers using the M8 (and not among Leica's "official" pros) reaches double digits.
Then again I've never based any purchase decisions on someone else's endorsement.

2) Then you say you called some so-called friend to ask if anybody else said he was "great", meaning you can't trust your own judgement, waiting to see if anyone else says he's "acclaimed".
3) Then you claim that you don't make any decisions based on anyone else's judgements.
HA HA HA HA.
I have never seen such a single-minded malcontent blathering endlessly about why he doesn't like a camera. OK, you don't like the M8. So what. Nobody's forcing you to buy one, or you don't have the money. The only reason you can inject your vitriol into every thread is because on a forum, every imbalanced pipsqueak can force himself into other people's consciousness. In real life, you would be thrown out.
I don't see anyone giving kudos to your maudlin and frankly amateurish gallery, acclaimed "Ben Z.". Your pedestrian subject matter would be just as well served had you used a Brownie Starflash or a Kodapak.
In other words, give it a rest, Bub.
hey Edward, chill.

I clearly don't have your eyes, guys. I'm underwhelmed by the shots and I wouldn't call him a great photographer based on those shots. Of course, you are welcome to destroy my gallery but still, won't make me change my mind... I'm still glad the M8 has won another heart.

Amazing work indeed, but I don't think it is just a matter of time before every great photographer drinks the M-8 Kool-Aid.

Interesting, too, the reference to his father's heart as a "pump." I like his thoughts and his writing...hope he comes over and hangs with us.

it would certainly be a treat to have at least one m8 thread that was completely civil from start to finish.
it seems this one won't be the one.

we have always been tolerant to a degree and then act to censor when other methods fail.
i will not be quick to judge and ban but when the decision has been made to act there is no hesitation.

I must second Ben on this one. This kind of personal attack seems to have increased here since the moderation on other forums got more strict.

Fair enough, banning on a first offense would be too severe. But out of courtesy at least can those disparaging posts in this thread be deleted? Surely they aren't essential to the thread or contributing to enhancement of the site content.
