I saw a photography magazine called "Exposure" at B&N recently. It's publisher invites reader to become "Associates" for about $100. For that fee you get to submit photos that have a "very good chance" of being published.

Hmmmmmmm.... sounds like vanity publishing to me. Opinions?

Saw the same magazine...was passing through an airport and grabbed a few photography magazines. My first impression was "what a collection of rather unremarkable photographs..." then I realized it was precisely as you've described - vanity pub. Now I suppose it'd be fun to see a few of one's shots in glossy print; and there's the eternal hope (as this is my hobby) that someone important will see the shot of my dog in the yard and immediatey put me on assignment with National Geographic doing a piece on the "Dingo Dogs of East Africa" or something.

Nothing wrong with it I suppose. I don't need to be published so bad that I would pay for the privledge. I've submitted my work to various mags only to be rejected along with lots of other people. If I have an extra 100 clams that I've got nothing planned for, it won't go to paying to have my pictures printed in an obscure magazine along with a bunch of other wannabes. Nevertheless, if it suits someone, I'm G with that.
