hello there,
I just got a good 50mm 0.95 in nice condition. Now I own M6 with a couple lens. I've searched that we can modify 0.95 in using with M-mount. But I need opinions whether I find 7 or 7s for 0.95 or modify for M-mount. My concern now is lightmeter on 7 or 7s. Also I live in Thailand. If I want to modify, anyplace should I go for.
Thanks,
Narin

There is very long, recent, and informative thread on this topic somewhere on RFF...

Given the threads already here, I'll simply say that the best bet is to find a Canon 7 of any version & meter with a handheld meter as even the most recent Canon meter isn't really up to what a 50/.95 can do.
Really the Canon lens is a very special place & time in the developement of photographic lenses. Enjoy what it does well & don't worry about the rest. This is not a carry around all day lens like the 50/1.4 or 50/1.5 but rather something that does what only a very tiny number of lenses can. When you need it, nothing else will do but 99 percent of the time something else can do.
Hope this helps,
William

There's my Proctor-Silex!
Get a Canon 7, like William said. That way the lens would not need to be altered. No chance taken on hurting the lens or possible future use or resale. Canon 7 and 7s cameras are fine instruments and can take film photographs just as good as a Leica.
You will need a hand meter for using the lens in the lowest light anyway. I find the 7s meter (CdS) sufficient for outdoor daylight photography. It goes down to ev3 at asa 100. I also have a 7 with a good selenium meter. It measures as low as ev 6 at asa 100. Both meters only can use film rated as high as asa 400.
Enjoy the lens in good health. The lens is capable of great photographs. Remember, it takes some time to learn how to use a lens with such shallow DOF. Use a tripod!

As others have said get a Canon.
Converting the 0.95 to M-mount will cost US$300+ then you'll have to spend US$1000+ for the M body..

Probably more, with lens, original cap, C-mount adapter ,original box (and a nice 7 thrown in

Watch that step!
Keep it Canon 7 mount, you can find a beautiful clean Canon 7 for less than $300, or invest a little more $ in a 7s or 7sz, put the lens on that and start shooting, that`s the camera the lens was MADE for in the first place

I've heard a good supply of Canon TM lenses and bodies have surfaced for the show in Richfield, (S of Cleveland), this Sunday (7th Sept.) bodies, and I know there were some 1.4 and 1.5 50's, some 35mm and specifically the mention of one .95. Show is listed.
FYI, hope someone finds what they are looking for.

At the risk of this sounding like a broken record, here's another recommendation to "buy a 7 and a handheld meter" - but be sure you get a GREAT meter. When I had mine (TV version converted to M-mount) I was able to shoot it on the ZI (with AE, which uses a decent if not great modern meter) in conditions nearly too dark to see or focus properly.

Probably prices will come down again somewhat when LEICA will show their new f/0.9-NOCTILUX, which eventually become the fastest RF coupled lens ever... If then CANON would have hold this record for 48 years...

Unlikely, IMO. One, prices for the Canon have increased in lockstep with prices for the Noctilux - the price of the Canon won't drop unless a new Noctilux comes out much less expensive than the old. Two, pristine examples of the Canon become increasingly rare. Absent a currency collapse or global depression the days when this lens could be had for under $500 are gone forever.Probably prices will come down again somewhat when LEICA will show their new f/0.9-NOCTILUX, which eventually become the fastest RF coupled lens ever... I tend to agree with the last post. Any Leica of comparable speed will be priced at a multiple of the cost of the Canon, so there is no realistic comparison. With the number of modified lenses available, there must be a considerable shrinking of the supply of original (non-TV) lenses available. It hasn't been a rare lens, but it could be increasingly scarce, especially to find the mint/near mint condition.
And the many posters calling for use on a 7/7s/7sz have the correct approach, IMHO. The cameras are reasonable in price, and of comparable quality to anything from its time. They feel good in the hand, and are excellent shooters. The 7s, with the accessory clip and newer meter, has the best feature/value ratio, but if those qualities aren't important, the 7 is VERY cheap for what it is.

Beautiful shots, Hacker. The portrait is stunning, OOF areas very nice. The 2nd shot is gorgeous color, and again, the OOF areas are very pleasant.
And this is the lens that for most of its life has been called by any number of derogatory names, and belittled for its poor performance.

As a first step, I got a Canon 7. This was the easy part. Next, I need the 50/0.95. This second step is a difficult one though. It may have to wait .........

I disagree with the majority on this. Since the cost of a 7 body and a conversion to M mount are roughly the same, if I were in the OP's situation owning a M6 body, I'd get the lens modified for use on the camera that I own already.
