To prove my mad scientist status I have undertaken the project of refinishing a Leica IIC in Orange.

Down to Nickel, messing with the B929 this afternoon.

Its actually just soot from the Muriatic Acid bath, this snap was taken after rinsing, a brillow pad and clean water brings it back to a nickel/chrome look. (I would never recommend using Muriatic Acid for Chrome removal, it takes a very long time, and can/will eat the brass base metal)

If you are spraying I would be interested to know how you are going to approach screw heads and the rangefinder window bezels, particularly the one with fixed glass?

Im sitting here trying to get my water bath to a steady 150* F

Its going to take a few hours in the B929 to get that pesky nickel off.

The bezels will be chrome just because I want those features to "pop"

Its not all that difficult to remove the glass by soaking the bezel in lighter fluid. Eventually you will be able to press the glass out of the back.

The little screws will be done separate in a smaller bath later on as I want to see how they look on the orange paint in their chrome. To paint those a simple airbrush works fine. (Just push the threads into model clay) A fine detail/pin stripe brush works great for cleaning them up after installation.
 
Rather than removing the glass, which sounds awfully fiddely, just go over to your friendly (and overpriced) neighborhood art store and buy a little bottle of something called Frisket, a masking fluid (see link below) that allows you to carefully brush it on wherever you don't want things painted. It dries quickly, and you can use a magnifying glass and an Xacto knife to cut out any areas afterwards and peel them off to get a perfectly clean line. After you have everything painted, just peel off the Frisket. Very handy for little pieces that you don't want to remove.

You didn't think that artists painted all those perfectly straight lines by hand did you? It's done w/ rulers, plain old blue house painter's tape for big over-the-sofa paintings, and masking fluid for the smaller watercolours.

All I know about orange is that it's the Clemson colour, and they managed to beat 'Bama in the championship game. I'm still in shock from that catastrophe. Roll Tide! Next year.

Ah: a Trump-matching camera! Or if it's sectarian, just don't put it in the same parade as a green Bundeseigentum Leica M3 or an olive drab Bessa.
