Have any of you had to pay an import duty on a used lens shipped to you in the U.S.
(I've shipped a lot internationally- just not recieved much)

I've had several photographic items shipped to me, including lenses, mostly from England but also from Poland and the Ukraine. I've never had to pay import or customs duties. As a further OT aside; the two items from Poland were shipped airmail, and came faster than another item purchased the same day from the state next door (NV). It was cheaper too!

I have never heard of anyone being charged on anything I have sent to the US. I think Aus has a $1000 limit for personal items. It is just the poor overtaxed Europeans that get clobbered.

No duty, never. Just a strange look from the postman every once and a while. I suspect I am the only person on the street who gets packages from all corners of the world.

I remember in the good old days when you were allowed to import items for 70 € without any customs to pay. A wristwatch for 15 USD from ebay suddenly costs about 40!
Well rant off....and I think of the great Canon IVSB a friend brought me from the states personally without any customs at all!

In Guam, a US territory, you are allowed a $1,000 exemption on purchaces no matter where the item originates as I learned the hard way. I bought a Leica M6 with 50mm and 90mm lenses from Keh and got hit with a $50 dollar "unloading fee".
