OT: polaroid manipulations

Recently my parents cleared some cupboards and came up with a Polaroid Land Camera 1000. It takes sx-70 film. I've heard of people doing manipulations with polaroid film and I'm curious what kinds of manipulations are out there. I've heard of heat treatment, transfers, even "rubbing" techniques (making the shot look more like a drawing or painting). Is there anything else out there? Does anyone have useful links to internet sites about all of these manipulations? Is anyone here doing such manipulations?

How about altering the camera itself?

Oh, does anyone know of a (cheap?) source of sx-70 film in or near Holland?

I like Polaroid and tried in the past some manipulaiton with an SX70 I borrowed from a friend. I suggest you this link as starting point. : http://www.polaroid.com/creative/index.jsp?PRDREG=null
Basically when the photo is expulse by the camera wait untill image start to appear and the strok on ot with more or less pressure to move the emulsion (SX-70 films have a reasonably soft emulsion) . Adding more or less pressure you move the different colours layers of the film and get different effect. Unfortunately there is not a fix rule, much is left to experiments, and with the cost of this kind of film ....uhh uhh. But when it works can be great !

Transferring polaroids id fun I tried that once. Easy to do to, you just need some warm water, window cleaning spray fluid stuff and somthing to stick the picture to. Good times... 😀

It is my memory that one of Les Krims' books started this craze back in the mid seventies.

He has a website. You can look it up, but you may not want your 5 year old (or your boss) looking over your shoulder when you do.

Polaroids can be fun ... but sadly their films are dropping like flies. The SX-70 film has recently been discontinued. With a few mod's to the camera you can use 600 film but from what I have read it does not lend itself to manipultions. Image transfers and imulsion lifts using the 669 film look pretty cool too. The old pack film cameras are a dime a dozen and are very easy to find in thrift stores and garage sales ... http://www.alternativephotography.com/process_emulsionlifts.html ... and of course ... these cameras have rangefinders 😀

Hi Remi. Congratulations on your books, I love the Amsterdam shots 🙂
With sx-70 you can do a lot of things, mainly manipulations to the emulsion with a toothpick or something similar, you can heat it a lot as soon as it comes out (or freeze it). You can try to cut the sides of the pola and separate it while still fresh and then stick it to something. Emulsion transfer is done with the other polaroids (the peel apart type).

You can also use pola type 600 which is easier to find and normally cheaper but it's rated at 640 iso, sx-70 film is rated 125 iso so you have to modify the exposure meter to adjust the expo to measure at 640 iso, I read instructions somewhere on the net on how to do this.
