Any watch collectors/enthusiasts here?

If so - any recommendations for a good watch-collecting/discussion site out there?

i think bill m is into watches.

i have an old railroad (pocket) watch that i'm pretty sure is way older than i am. but i wouldn't call that a collection.

Correct-a-mundo. I am a vintage watch fan.

In my opinion - the best discussion board out there by far is TimeZone.

These folks are heavy hitters - most of them make more money every month than I do in a year - but they're really nice people (they just drop staggering amounts of money on mechanical wristwatches) and they've always been nice to me. I've been active on TimeZone since 1998 or so, off and on.

When I used to travel for a living, I often got together with a group of these folks wherever I happened to be - Washington DC a couple of times, Philly, Denver/Boulder, and Atlanta, as I recall. We'd all go out to dinner and then out would come the watches. Stunning collections on most of these guys.

Myself, my collection is financially challenged - read cheap - like my cameras. I appreciate fine wristwatches, but I also appreciate the fact that I have no money. I have a few dozen fine old American wristwatches that range from 1920 to about 1970. I have a few modern Swiss and German mechanical watches. I've got my Grandad's old Elgin pocketwatch (I think everyone's got one somewhere, right)?

If I can offer any advice, I'd be happy to. If you drop by TimeZone, tell 'em I sent ya. I always tell them about RFF! (And AudioKarma, but hey, we were talking about watches). Hope you find this helpful!

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks
