I was out and about on Long Island today. Part of the goal was to see what my new cameras could do, but I couldn't leave the M8 behind so I thought I'd share a few shots I took with her. She was paired up with the CV 15mm Heliar today.

I grew up on the Island and when I visit I usually park the camera or shoot pics of people I am visiting. I like what you have posted here, especially the last one. Good composition and nice tight space. The tonality on the path works well too in luring the viewer to follow the path.

I like the first one but cannot work out the DoF. It seems too shallow for a 15mm (or 20mm on M8?)

It's shot wide open and I focused using the distance scale on the lens. I punched up the contrast quite a bit using an overlay layer in photoshop (doing a sort of light soft focus effect) and I think that accentuated the out of focus area in an odd sort of way. Straight out of the cam it still seems too shallow from the 15mm though, but I think it's because I wasn't set for hyperfocal distance, but really focusing in only on the closest object.

Helen... I'm undecided about the last two, so it's nice to hear your feedback on them. I think I like the 2nd one better, but not sure. Any thoughts?

I Like these a lot. They have a sense of claustrofobia that I'd love to capture in an image.
To me, b&w digital imagery always seems somewhat 'shallow' when it comes to shades of grey, you might wanna try them on film as well.
No clue on what film to use though, since I've never been to Long Island and have no perception on the kind of light on a day like that.

Love the shot of the Montauk Lighthouse and the path leading down to the beach. I try to get there at least once a year.

Johan - thanks for the comments... I just recently am embarking on getting into film and I might have actually shot one in film too (had that camera with me too). Of course, the light was kinda dull because it was the end of the day (low sun) and I did punch them up a lot in photoshop.
