Hi everyone,

I recently ran into a problem that I only now realized involves errors with my ability to develop C41 film. I have been developing it myself at home using a Job Tetenal C41 kit following the instructions included... but now I realize that a lot of the rolls I have developed in the past are, I think, overdeveloped (scanned images appear to have a magenta/red cast or a yellow cast within the same roll). This is much more apparent in my developed Portra 400 films than in Ektar, Agfa Vista, Proimage 100, etc, perhaps because the high contrast of these films kind of block some of the error.

Any suggestions about what I might be doing wrong? I pre-soak the tank at 102F, then develop at 102F (39C) for 3:30 minutes, Blix between 95F-49.5F (35C-40.5C) for 6:30... all with rotations every 30 seconds.

Here are some samples of what I'm talking about (scanned with my Pakon 135+ scanner: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hdv677h3wp940dc/AABbD4dgODzR4NeC_e_Gr7Dja?dl=0

Could you show pictures of the actual culprit negatives. Scans are usually not a good means to judge processing faults

Why do you develop longer (and hotter) than what the book calls for? 15 secs is already a half-stop push in C-41 (at 37.8C). Pour out at 3:05 s and see that the next solution hits the film by 3:15~3:20.

High contrast will normally emphasize problems rather than mask them.

Is 39C the temperature of the developer inside the tank during development or the temperature you bring the solution to before you fill the tank?

I assume you re-use your Blix. Do you use a stop bath?
