I got the bug. I love point an shoots! They go everywhere! Some of them are grossly underrated or rather overlooked by would be "real" photographers.

They are cheap and in some cases produce amazing images.

But you know, because they're more affordable, you end up buying many...

Olympus infinity stylus
Nikon L35AD
Ricoh GR1s (back from repair)
Canon G9

Recent aquisitions (in the mail):
Yashica T4
Pentax Espio Mini/UC-1

Prospective purchase:
Leica Minilux 40/2.4
Nikon 35ti

My girlfriend is asking me to stop. NO WAY

Listen to woman, she's smart.
Seriously, at the end you will just conclude all P&S are same (limited in controls and usability, still good for everyday use as long as you know your camera), if focal lengths don't differ too much.

True wisdom is at the beginning buy proper P&S and seems you have got some of them. Anything else will be redundant. You will learn a lot about gear, spending time and money which could be invested into film and taking pictures.

Rollei's 35 AF-M was quite fun, too, but I gave mine away because I hardly ever used it. Sure, it would 'go anywhere'. But so will a Leica, and if you've already got a Leica, why use a point-and-shoot?

Also, if you keep spending money on 'affordable' cameras, you won't have any money to spend on the seriously good stuff. Ten point-and-shoots at $50 = $500, for which you could probably buy an M2 in good working order. This is what I call 'the myth of affordability': that one of the biggest barriers to buying an 'unaffordable' camera is often that you've spent all your money on 'affordable' ones. That was certainly my experience for years.

Cheers,

R.

wolf, I have a Pentax Espio mini too, I have had it since new, about 14 years and is a good p&s camera

As long you have fun using them, but also with the subjects (no matter which camera you have in pocket), keep on :)

But if you have something very quality and durable like Nikon 35ti, you could keep maybe just another 1 camera as replace.

I really like my Contax T2 - it goes everywhere with me. Far more convenient to carry around and use everyday than a meterless, manual-everything camera.

Not really. For most of the time I was at university, and for a good few years afterwards, my everyday camera was a IIIa with a collapsible Elmar. It requires a tiny bit more thought than a T2, but it's just as convenient to carry and use.

Cheers,

Since you also have a digital P&S, and as see from your flickr - you appear to be a quite passionate and impulsive photographer, taking bunch of photos daily, how would you consider using something like let's say Canon S90/S95, since they are one of the best affordable digital P&S right now, with bigger sensor and pocket-able?

I love my Pentax Optio A40 digital P&S.

A Pentax IQZoom 105WR is a must have if you're collecting them. 38-105mm zoom lens, fast AF, bulb mode and weather sealed! You can buy them all day on eBay for $1 each plus shipping.

Digital is on my black list right now. Don't ask.

I have some good gear, but the reason I like the p&s is it goes everywhere without bulk. I have a little Rollei case that straps to a belt loop of my jeans and I just forget about it. My GR1s is in my messenger bag 24/7. But that's my life right now, not much room in my bag and I mostly document objects wherever they are.

So if I go for a walk around, I'll take my bessa but for commute/everywhere photos it's p&s.

I got the same illness as you. From March I've got myself a bunch of film P&S already, mostly from EvilBay.
Olympus 35RC, Olympus XA, Olympus mjuII, Lomo LC-A, Rollei Prego AF (killed it on the parking pavement:bang:)
... now thinking of a Fujifilm Natura:D
Serious illness indeed...:(

I have a Canon Sure Shot Tele (43mm or 75 mm lens options, non-zooming) as well as a Canon Elph APS film camera. That's it for autofocusing and autoexposure cameras.

For manual focusing RF P&S without lens interchangeability, I have a Zeiss Contessa as well as an Aires IIIL. But, as it has been pointed out before, any Barnack Leica is almost as small and light.

In medium format, there are the Zeiss Super Ikonta B and C folders, as well as a Rolleiflex 3.5F.

I've never published my list of addiction, so here goes...

Owned but sold: Minolta TC-1, Contax T3, Contax T2(bought when new), Ricoh GR1v(bought when new), Black Leica Minilux, Nikon 35TI.

Currently own: Contax T2(repurchased), Ricoh GR1v(repurchased), Rollei QZ35w, Black Contax Tix, Olympus XA, Olympus 35ECR, Olympus 35RC, Olympus mjuII(stylus epic), Olympus AF-1, Olympus mju1(own 2), Canon AF35M, Nikon L35AF, Nikon L35AF2, Nikon AF600, Ricoh FF-70, Pentax PC35AF, Pentax Espio Mini, Rollei Prego 90(own 2), Leica mini zoom, Nikon Zoom 700VR(boxed new, never used), Fujifilm DL Super Mini Zoom, Canon Sureshot Classic 120, Chinon Bellami, Minolta Vectis 300.

On the way: Contax T, Konica Hexar AF.

I didn't realise how bad my addiction was until I rooted them all out from the various nooks and crannies I keep them.

My favourite was the TC-1 but I needed the funds and had to sell. I'm sure I will get another, maybe sell a few of the above...

Hopefully I will stop soon (probably not!)

Aw, Roger. You can't deny that a camera that fits comfortably in my tight jeans pocket is different from one that takes up a hand as I walk around (anywhere from two to six miles on an average day, more on the weekends) or makes me carry a bag.

This though is undisputably, for now and evermore true. It's why I sold all my goof-off cameras (as opposed to the parts ones that I use for projects) over the last 18 months and scrimped a bit for an E-PL1 with the EVF and M39 adapter.
