I've been thinking for a while about starting a business photographing school sports teams (like the outdoor baseball team photos, etc) and also the panoramic class photos where students are lined up on bleachers, frequently in their school's basketball court/gymnasium. I remember when I was in junior high, we were photographed as a class of 300 students with a panoramic camera, probably 6x12 if my memory is good enough (and judging by the proportions of the print i still have).
So supposing one were to want to photograph groups such as this, what would be the optimum focal length on 6x12? Let's say I'd be on the halfway-line of a basketball court, directly halfway between both the sidelines and the end zones, and the group was lined up along the sidelines. Bonus - how would this be lit (indoor)?
