One of the old tried and true adages of the "beginner to enlarging" dogmas is that when you get a new package of enlarging paper opened, you need to use a few sheets from it to be chopped up into test strip material.

The adage is that the material in the package is going to be the same overall thickness. Despite the fact that the thickness of a single sheet is not going to be even over its own length. Its an adage that makes people feel good.

I know if your going to be printing on 20x24 ilford FB paper, it wont HURT to do this. However if you can afford to purchase, let alone USE ilford 20x24 classic FB... buying a package of 5.7 or even 8x10 wont hurt the bank. And save some mighty big money by not chopping that 20x24 up.
