Hello all, I was hoping someone could give me some advice.
I purchased an M2 and a couple lenses at an estate sale a while ago and have been using them every chance I get.
I am having a strange problem though. It seems to be that on faster shutter speeds (1/500, 1/1000) I am getting much of the negative way underexposed on that frame. The slower shutter speeds seem like they are right on, and exposures accurate. I've only had this trouble with faster shutter speeds.
I plan to send it in for CLA as soon as I can bring my self to stop shooting with it, but any input would be appreciated.

Shutter bounce? That's when the 2nd shutter curtain bounces back out into the frame (reducing the size of the slit) & causes a band of underexposure. If not, something similar. A tech will be able to fix it easily.

time to send it in for the cla. curtains are not in sync. could be second curtain closing too soon or something like that. my problem wasn't as bad but was also at top end of shutter speeds.

Looks like the first shutter curtain is travelling too slowly and/or the second curtain travels too fast. The second curtain catches up to the first during the exposure resulting in the dark/under exposed area in the image. Time for a CLA (clean, lube, adjust) by a qualified camera technician.

If you got the kind of estate sale bargains that I've occasionaly run into then you'll still be ahead even paying for the CLA. It's usually caused by gummed up old lubricants from just sitting around unused for too many years. Sometimes just shooting it enough will get things workiing OK, but it would still be happier after a check-up at the camera doctor.

I'm startin to have a similar problem with my M4 it seems, at 1/1000 I have major fall offs mainly on the left but also on the right side of the frame. this bothers me a lot, as I think I'm not quite in the position to pay a full CLA right now. does anyone know someone capable in Germany or at least Europe with more or less affordable prices?
