O.K , I have a severely dee's ruptive autisic glitch , which equally severely , restricts which items and cameras that I can connect to ''see ''

Mercifully my twin Leica II / Fed 1 / Zorki S / Zenit S ... are all comfortable / real , as is my M 8 ... bought because this was the only digibox , I could relate to / resolve / connect to . [ from an inheritance 'cos I am not rich ! ]

But a wanted a DSLR and now have a Pentax K 10 D ... but though I can use it ,
like every other plastic auto everything DSLR , it is like distsnt from me - like my mind can't see / make sense of it ... my Minolta 700i was the same .

So , I am considering a Panasonic L 1 , simply because it feels '' right '' - as my M 8 does .

OK , it's flawed , outdated , overpriced , wide angle hell , 1/2 frame ... I could go on ...

But I will USE it much more than the Pentax - AND , like my M 8 , I can also use my familiar Rokkors . And it is beautifully finished and realised .

It's as if these cameras - or a Digilux 2 / Panasonic L C1 [ Canon G 5 quality ] fixed lense very-big-indeed '' compact '' [ if I can find one cheap ] will never date for me - maybe 'cos the style is that of the 50s

How important is this connection to you '' real '' people , or is it an ASdee thing ?

Dee, you make a fine point.

Over the years I have "connected" with my M2, M6 and M7 but not M4.

I loved my F90x, but hated my F100...

My Contax RX was fantastic - my Contax G1 and G2 were disappointments.

Currently, my IID and IIIc get all the use. They feel, as I have said before, like playing an acoustic guitar. The mistakes I make are all mine, not some onboard microprocessor.

Some machines have "soul" - there's no denying it. Some are commodities. You can't tell which is which until you use them for a while. Sometimes you don't realise until you have let them go, when you can either mourn your loss or get another, usually at a higher price.

My second RX was never quite the same as my first, though...

Regards,

Bill

A word of advice - Make sure the Panasonic is loaded with pixels from the mine in south Australia. They are the superior in size and shape. Some camera companies want to go the cheap route and use cheap pixels from the Siberian pixel mine. They are notably mishapen. This is why Russian televisions are so bad. Good luck!!

Tom

Hmmm - Maybe I will go for the magic of pixies instead !!!

Are the Siberian pixels from a Cold Mine ?

Go for it

Go for it

Those L1's are $799, you can compare with the K10D then sell the one you don't want to keep.

Also, consider a K100D Super if you can still find one. They have bigger pixels and less noise, but fewer pixels of course, than the K10D and newer.

I know we all suffer from GAS, but may I ask why you think you want/need another digital camera if you feel connected to your M8?

That's a sensible thought , RF-ADDICT .
I always had an SLR , but increasingly , lost any sense of connection , probably from my Minolta SRT onwards . I am still having dee'ficulty learning range finder , but the fixed windw helps enormously with my ASdee - as does that of my Leica II and leica-likes .
But I love close up and table top pics of my toys ... and sometimes , just the laziness of an auto everything SLR ...
The L 1 or even a Leca Digilux 2 / Panasonic LC 1[ with fixed lense and Canon G 5 performance , has the interface of my M 8 , with the convenience ...
Having said that , it is the M 8 and Summitar which goes everywhere with me !

I really don't want to keep buying more digiboxes , but an SLR was on my wants list , and the L 1 seems like an opportunity not to be missed - bodies seem to make £300 used , which seems acceptable .

I've connected with my Bessa R so well that it took my Epson R-D1 to wean me off of it.

I never really connected to my Leica M2, though it's not as bad as with my Canon Eos 300D. My old Eos 3000 film SLR was fine, but I dropped it for my Bessa R as soon as I got that little beast. The 300D was an entirely different story. I never connected with it properly and though I use it for assignments, I never feel "confident" with it. It produces images, while the R-D1 makes photos. Oh, wait, it's the photographer, not the camera. :)
