Has anyone any information on such a camera? I was at the Clyde Butcher exhibit yesterday and the description on one of his photos said the photo was made with said camera and a 1200mm lens.

I've googled and binged and those search engines either want to give me pentax, not pentex, no matter how many times I "say" otherwise, etc.

that's what I thought..

that's what I thought..

after I realized that 2 1/4 by 2 3/4 is probably 6X7. Butcher just answered my question on Facebook. Wouldn't you think that someone with Butcher's expertise would know how to spell Pentax?

I've been lusting after a Pentax 67 for some time...

Indeed 2.25 x 2.75" is now commonly called 6x7cm, though the metric designation is not accurate, just an approximation of the original inch size.

I recall mention somewhere that the Pentax name was not allowed in South Africa at one time, that name belonging to a S.A. company, and so Pentax gear sold there carried a variation of the name, which was Pentex or something similar.

Hi Mary - I've long been fond of the big Pentax, a favorite of mine because of its good handling despite the size. It's so easy to use hand-held at eye-level, like a "grown-up" 35mm SLR... I've never been comfortable with the reversed waist-level SLR or TLR viewfinder, which are clearly designed for that kind of viewing; and when a prism is added they just don't handle properly at eye level, IMO.

After a couple of decades using the P67, I thought I'd like the Pentax 645 too... but I don't. Even with the built-in grip and prism, it's still basically a cube design and feels "long" front to back as if it were a video camera. It has a lot of great attributes, works well, but for me it's just not as likable as the P67!

I especially like the P67II, a significant improvement on the long evolution of the P6x7 / P67, with the smoother design of the meter prism, even better handling with the built-in side grip, better damping of the mirror etc... And the pricing reflects this.
