Am I the only one who feels weird when you view your flickr stats and you see people looking up the full res sizes of your images? I cant belive flickr allows this function. Its so easy for people to steal images.

I'm pretty sure that you can disable this.

Block downloading.. I have downloading of my images blocked to prevent people from getting my full size image..

I just dont use flickr and use Zenfolio instead. About the only way to steal an image is screen shot it on Zenfolio. But then again im not interested in the comunity aspect of sites like flickr because i find the comunity here more enjoyable.

Who forced you to upload high res images?

Just FYI, it's not hard at all for someone with a small amount of technical knowledge to get a high resolution copy of your image off Zenfolio. With 5 minutes of fooling around, and no experience on my part, I was able to download this image fairly easily in 1100 x 733. If you're showing someone else the image, you're sending it to them, and they'll be able to access it.

As for Flickr's full size access - you can set the largest size available to the public. You can also choose to upload lower resolution copies of your photos.

Im surporised you actually went to the effort. My general feeling is if someone wants an image in this day and age they will take it. i would how ever be interested to know what you did if you PM me.

Edit: there is actually a function that restricts the maximum file size that can be viewed and mine just happends to be set to the resolution you grabbed.

Sorry to the OP for this heading off topic.

I agree, even when you disable downloading on Flickr, it's still easy to do so, just upload lower resolution images. The truth is that if an image is on the internet, you can download it, you can go to great lengths to discourage it, but you can't stop it

In some of my conversations with the Flickreenos, it was stated many times that if your image is on a web page, it can be downloaded. So if you post a photo here from your Flickr account, it's downloadable, no matter what parameters you set on Flickr.

This was my thinking.

But like many here have mentioned, I like looking at hi res images sometimes too.

Yeah even if you disable downloading you can use the page source to grab the files.

Yeah im in the process of replacing my photos with lower resolution copies. I dont care about someone using my photo as a screen saver but since I sell prints it makes me feel weird when I see someone looking at a full res picture.

"I don't want people to see this photo, so I'll post it on the internet"... 😕

Like everyone said, if you don't want people to download your photos, don't post them on the internet. Nothing is perfect, especially internet security, the best you can do is make it harder for someone to download yours, just like outrunning a lion so to speak (as in you don't have to outrun the lion, just someone else).

Posting images on the internet is a double edged sword, accept it and participate, or don't accept it. (FWIW, I choose not to accept it, and don't post photos online, or have facebook/flikr/twitter/etc..)

The full size of images that I post to flickr, or nearly anywhere else, is around 1024x1024 or so, give and take depending on format. That's big enough to make a nice 4x4 inch print at 240 ppi.

People can look at my large prints any time, and even download them. They'll be hard pressed to do a high quality print at any greater size than that.

I'm a pro photographer.

I am not particularly distressed at the thought of people downloading a large image of mine. (Although that could change if I actually found someone claiming my work as their own).

But it is mentioned below that its possible to prevent this through settings in FLickr. I do not believe I have seen this setting. Can someone point me to it please? I find the new Flickr more than a little confusing to navigate at times and if someone knows how it could save me considerable time and frustration.

Thanks in advance. Peter

consider the possibility that they have a high res device, say 2-5x higher than most flickr viewing devices were a few years ago, and they'd like to see your image larger than a thumbnail.
