Nice to hear from you Al. I'm hoping to find some people from the area who want to chat about their cameras or meet sometime in Philly. Hopfully we'll get a small group here sooner or later. Glad you signed up.

HBC and charlesfoto are from Philly, and pop in every now and again. Sometimes when I get homesick I look at HBC's gallery. And boy would I love to go shooting with charlesfoto
I'll holler on my next visit home. I hope it's not too long from now. Autumn is my favorite time of year in Philly and esp. at the beach in Jersey.

I'd love to wander around Philly taking pictures. The old Lit Brothers building looks really neat. Will they still arrest people for trying to take pictures of one of the bridges?

Hello David,
I live just west of Philly in Narberth. I'm a Leica M user for 40 years. My contact information is at my Website: www.rwpwc.com, and I think it would be great if we could get a local group together periodically.
Al,
Don't worry, they no longer arrest you for taking photos of the bridges. They just shoot you due to jail overcrowding. Just kidding of course, but I have never even been challenged let alone arrested for taking pics of Philly's bridges.

Cool. I work in CC, live in the Great NE, get lost in the KOP mall and I suppose I could get arrested taking pictures on SEPTA. Somewhere there is a sign on the old Lit Bros. builing saying what it was, but I can't find it, and I've got a few pics of the eagle in Lord & Taylor - old John Wanamaker. I'm hoping that Paul Neuman gets his way and lands a car race on the Parkway. That would be photo heaven! Anyway, I've jotted down all of the names here and will collect some more I hope. If it's convenient we can find a place in Philly or nearby sometime and sit and share RF stories. I have another, more interesting place in CC that might let us use their gallery for a get together, but thats just a possibility. Stay in touch. -
Here's an Art Musuem shot of mine.

David,
That would be great if you could set up a meeting or a shoot, or just a walk around meet/shoot.
Thanks for taking the lead.
I also get lost in the KOP mall. Now I just park near the exit where the store is that I want to visit because if I don't I wander aimlessly for hours.

Nice shot, David. What camera, specs?
Good to see you spearheading this. I hope I can meet up with some of you sometime. Until then, I look forward to all your photos giving me the warm fuzzies. Like Lager used to.
I'm pretty certain it's right at the corner of 7th and Market. It's engraved stone, and you have to look up. Around the back, between Market and Filbert (or maybe it actually is Filbert; it's an alley where the Dumpsters are) there may be some old painted signs on brick, too.

What about meeting somewhere near the Art Museum. They've recently replaced all the burned-out light bulbs on the boathouses with new LED's. I've been meaning to get down there, but frankly haven't had a decent excuse. Some teriific evening urban landscape and boathouse shots await us! Any opportunity to excape the tyranny of the "honey do" list, and bend an elbow and talk rangefinders sounds great! Let me know the particulars when you decide upon a time and place.
Regards all!

I live in Lafayette Hill, PA which if you don't know is right next to the Chestnut Hill part of Philadelphia. Did any of you Philadelphians ever meet? I just joined this list recently and am looking to "get out more" and shoot.
I suppose the decision for locale depends on the subject matter you are interested in. I mostly use my rangefinders to take people pics and candid shots, so I aim for areas that should have lots of people.
1. Manayunk
2. Chestnut Hill
3. Downtown during business hours (I don't work down there anymore).
4. Special events, i.e. the big bike race in June.
5. Wissahickon/FAirmount park.
6. The Art Museum area sounds like an interesting idea, especially as the weather warms.
7. Sporting events. (I always thought you could get some great people pictures during tailgating before an Eagles event, but I've been too lazy to get down there before a game.)
Maybe we could find some common ground? If people are still monitoring this, where have you rangefinded in the past?

Count me in.
I live north of Philly in Hatboro. Most of my free time is spent walking the neighborhoods in and around center city with my R2a shooting black and white. The ethnic festivals at Penn's Landing, the Italian market, etc. all provide plenty of subject matter.
Looking forward to getting together.
And I did get challenged (not arrested) on the Ben Franklin bridge by the police. No problem.
