Dear Friends,

I have posted 2 years worth of work on rural community of Pulau Ubin (offshore island of Singapore) here http://www.pbase.com/kepha/ubin Do take a look and I look forward to your comments and advices.

Warmest Regards,
Peter

Pretty amazing collection, Peter. You work really hard and it shows! Is documentary photography your main interest? There are a growing number of exhibitions here in the U.S. that focus on this aspect of photography.

Thanks Oscar and Peter! I love documentary photography and RF cameras are one of the best tools for this type of work.

Great shots Peter. Thanks for sharing. All are good. The one of the village store/stall brought back memories, seeing the coconuts there. Ahhhh, fresh coconut juice on ice with shavings of the meat in the glass. Can't get that where I live. sigh. 🙁

Thanks Gene, oftheherd and Rudi! IMHO, documenting your immediate environment is the primary objective of photography. The rural community of Singapore is facing the threat of rapid urbanisation. I am not surprised that what I documented will be gone in a decade!

Argh ... I hate our firewall ... have to wait till I'm at home tonight.
I think the dial in connection at home isn't better than the firewall. 😡 ...
but the pictures I saw were nice (Could because of the connection just have a view to the medium size 🙁 ).

Would like to see more from time to time 😉 .
Thanks
rudi

Thanks Rudi for viewing my work and for the positive comment. I will post new work from time to time! 🙂

Hey, our esteemed gearhead/anthropologist Karen Nakamura just posted a link to it in her blog:

Talking about coconuts, even though I live in the tropics I have not taken coconut juice for more than 10 years!

Thanks Peter for the memories and the nice pics. Last time I step into P. Ubin was at least 10 years ago.

There is not much of Singapore that can be classified rural, and P. Ubin is also losing its "rural" status real fast from commercialisation and residents leaving the island for the mainland.

Thanks Chua for viewing the Ubin photos. I think my next project will be the small agriculture community of Singapore. Should preserve these images before they are gone. Good to see fellow Singaporeans here in RFF! What RF do you use?
