Just a quick note to say Photo Express in the UK are great, £4.50 for dev and scan, they do a good job, barely a dust spec on any of the frames out of 3 rolls.
Sent them off on Monday, got the CD on Wednesday, so one of the quickest I've tried too.

Highly recommended.

I also send my negs to Hull. They only charge £0.50 for return postage, so an excellent service for £5 all in. I've paid a lot more for scans which were nowhere near as good.

I was a Photo Express customer for a couple of years, and was very satisfied with their C-41 developing an scanning. As the OP wrote, the negatives were very clean, never scratched, and that is very important to me.

However, about a year ago I switched to Precision Camera because their scans are much higher resolution. I can use their scan directly for any purpose. And Precision does my 120 films as well. With Photo Express I would often need to re-scan at higher resolution, and that takes time.

Even though Precision's service is more expensive, Time = Money.

Since I'm in Denmark, with either service I need to post my films abroad (UK or US). But I would go back to Photo Express if they did 120 and higher resolution scans.

One more who is impressed with their service. Scans are only OK (way over-sharpened for me). I use them for proofing/Flickr and re-scan favourites at home to my taste.

That said, I have recently used York Digital Image for a dozen rolls. Slightly more expensive. Superior scans, but some frames were dusty. They are a local shop, so I am thinking use it or lose it.

I also have been very impressed with Photo Express (with whom I have no connection whatsoever). They have a high level of personal service, too, in my experience. I know that they looked into 120 processing but the costs of suitable scanning equipment, etc, were too high in the particular commercial context. Great shame.

I am scanning my stuff myself, but oh my god, for developing C41 there's no match - these dudes are ace. Negatives are always free of scratches and have incredibly quick turnaround time. If they'd only be developing 120 and cutting my 35mm into the strips of 6, I would be completely happy ;) But hey, one cannot have everything...
