Photography changing lives

Hi All

Went to a seminar about programmes funded by the European Grundtvig project today in Birmingham and saw one inspiring one built around photography.

As it says on the website:

"The photographs are taken by adults who have experienced various forms of disadvantage in their lives. They have now found ways of using photography to celebrate who they are, where they live and the people and things that are important to them."

Disadvantage in this case mainly means those with learning difficulties and disabilities and sometime physical difficulties too. Taking photographs has helped the participants see that their view of the world is important, and they in turn are important. The work has become a travelling exhibition and many of the photographers have travelled as part of the project.

All the galleries are worth looking at - there's some talent here and it's also interesting what people start to produce when they are finding their photographic voice for the first time.
