Hi Folks,
Anybody around Cologne for Photokina on Friday or Saturday (19/20) evening interested in meeting up for a beer? Maybe in one of the fine Kölschbrauhauses

If I were nearby, I'd certainly join you.
As it is, I think I'll invite a couple local RFers over for a beer and see what news of Photokina we can find on the 'net. (I'm in the wonderful state of Oregon, USA. Known for our great beer.)
I'm actually intrigued by the rumored new ZM lens....and all the new Leica goodies...ah, rumors.

I'm flying tonight and arriving in Cologne tomorrow. Am hoping to go and take some photos in the Melaten cemetery before covering Photokina overtakes my life completely. Any RFFers shot there in the past? I'm keen on finding the "Old Nick" grim reaper sculpture, but not sure where it is in the large cemetery.

@rfaspen: Oregon sounds my kind of place!
Anyway, meeting Friday night at 8pm in the Brauerei zur Malzmühle

Hi all,
well I would like to meet, but I am not sure if I can find the time to have a beer with other RFF members.
Although I am living in Cologne, I don't know where to find the grim reaper statue in the Melaten cemetery. It is a huge cemetery and I got lost there once and couldn't find the entrance again where I went into the cemetery.
On Friday evening there is an event with Thomas Hoepker signing some of his books:

Thanks for the link Lavertezzo, looks interesting.
Googled the Melaten cemetery - what an historic place!
Haven't managed to find coordinates for the grim reaper (I presume he finds you!
)
Found a map of cemetery here

//edit:
Is the Grim Reaper statue called Der Sensenmann? If so according to the german wiki page he is located on the western main road between sections 82 and 76B: Der Sensenmann befindet sich am westlichen Hauptweg, zwischen den Fluren 82 und 76 B

Hey guys, I'm back stateside already, was only in Cologne for a few days. I did find the reaper statue with the help of a few locals—going to blog about it and mark it on a map. It's very easy to find if you go in the right entrance, which I did not. Lovely place, though, I shot there on Sunday after a transatlantic flight and could only muster two hours of energy.
But yes, Doolittle, it does look like it's at 82 and 76B. I went in the entrance between 15 & 16 rather than the one between 47 and 48. Next time I'm in Cologne I'll try and find the time to explore some of the other areas, some lovely monuments there.
