Hi everyone,

This may not be news to some (most?) of you but I've been recently playing with Photoshop's LAB mode after taking Dan Margulis's introductory course on the subject at kelbytraining.com. I was really impressed with the course and more so with the results. Dan's theory (at the risk of oversimplifying it and getting it wrong) is that the human eye is much better at separating colors/increasing color contrast than digital cameras. He has a series of techniques (including some fairly straight-forward ones like than man from mars move) which simualte that ability by punching up the colors but in a in a very natural way (i.e., we're not talking about crazy HDR looks, over saturation, etc.). He also has color correction techniques that take advantage of the lab mode and seem incredibly useful for certain situations. Anyway, I can't go into all the detail in a post but just thought I'd share this. If you're interested, you can find all sorts of information on his techniques on the internets.
