A story may be in every picture. That is my opinion and I believe we can write down what those stories are, so let's give it a try. Why not? Pick a photo and write down what that photo "tells" you. I will go first.
Here is a picture:

Here is a story that came to mind when I first saw this image as a college student in 1968 on television:
"Life is sacred and killing people is wrong. People do bad things to other people all the time.
I saw a photograph that made me sick.
The photograph depicted a man holding a gun to the head of another person and it appears that the photograph was taken at the moment of impact. The victim had his hands behind his back while a soldier watched the shooting which appears to have been an assassination. A murder.
The photograph troubled me because it confirmed in a very graphic manner to me that evil exists in this world."
So, the story above is one that I felt inside after seeing the photograph. The part in bold lettering is what the picture "told" me or depicted, at least to me.
I did not know any other facts about this image at the time as I was an architectural student at the time and paid little attention to the Vietnam War while in studies. It was at a later time after studies that the War became personal for me.
In fact, the backstory of the image was not made known to me until recently when I came across some historical references. It appears that there are many stories surrounding this picture. But the photo told me a story about evil and death, one that I have seen repeated so many times since then. It was, in effect, my first encounter with photographs depicting murder.
Later, in law school, photographs of gruesome murders (forensics) told other stories but by then, I was de-sensitized and it started with this single image.
How about you folks? Got an image that tells you a story? Let's hear it!

Do all stories need to have photographs? If so, are they good stories?

Of course not....
Pick a photograph...write the story...it's easy:
Going back to the photo in my first post.
An Asian man, a mother and father's son of innocence when he was born, grew up to become involved in an apparent murder before he reached old age. He was photographed in the street of an urban area somewhere in the world holding a gun to the head of another Asian man who appeared to be much younger. The gun was fired and the shutter was released at what appeared to be the moment of impact of the bullet hitting the skull of the younger man. The younger man had his hands behind him and was in a defenseless position. There was at least one onlooker, a soldier, witnessing the event. The younger man, also a child of innocence a few years earlier, appears to have lost his life in a violent explosion of hatred from the older man. Both men are victims of evil hatred.
This is the story that I see in the picture years later.

My Red Dot Glows For You

Don Quixote walks into the movie set of "Moulin Rouge!" and fights the travesty that is turning U2 songs into a musical. He's finally subdued by security and his vision slowly becomes blurred, and finally sees into the soul of that giant, that poor formerly-sex-addicted giant, before his soul was sucked dry by Mr. Gaud E. Capitalism.
