pics of my nikkor 28/3.5

Joe, you should be taking pictures WITH the Nikkor and NOT pictures of it! I think the solution to your problem (you didn't know you had one? Geeeeeez......) is to send that 28 to me so I can compare it with my Orion-15. I promise to give it a good, thorough workout over the next couple of years. 😀

need a nikkor expert's view.

someone has written me to say they think the lens was painted black and was not originally black. the engraving on the inside rim says nippon kogagu japan and is black and he thinks it was filled in and was originally white.

is there a way to tell if this is a repaint?
anyone know what the lens looked like new?
does anyone have another smple of this lens, can you show a pic?

i'm just curious.
it will not be the end of the world if i don't sell the lens btw, so your thoughts are welcome.
many thanks.

i am done grant.

this is to finance getting another 40 as the one that was enroute to me (during the i am done post) arrived broken.
when the broken 40 is repaired then i will sell one of then and reaquire another 28.
no substantial changes in doneness.

Okay. So as long as you are only swapping lenses and not just adding lenses, then you are still done? Does that include trading out camera bodies as well? And can we therefor apply said logic to our significant others as well, yet still retain faithfullness in a relationship? 😉

i've had more than my fair share of wives and while there are certainly differences...in the end the functions are still the same, and in my case, the outcomes also.

as roland said, should i take pics with a broken lens?

joe

and on topic...anyone with any info on this lens?

i've done the internet searh and come up mostly empty handed.
i did find a reference to a chrome version of this lens.
i'm wondering just how rare and valued this lens might be.

Roland.

I was actually referring to the sacrifice and eventual replacement of the 28 as justification for getting the broken 40, and then getting another 40 while waiting for the former 40 to get fixed.

That 28 cv you're thinking of getting wouldn't happen to be the Utlron, would it Joe? 😀

first of all...the cap is not original. i paid $15 or 20 for it. it is an old nikkor from that era, but i believe it was used on their enlarging lenses too. maybe they are the same exact cap...not sure. as for being a re-paint...pretty sure that is not the case. i think it's black alloy (not painted). the look of your lens is consistant w/ that. also...i bought this from an old dude that was the original owner. i just bought his 85/2 nikkor recently...also in great shape. the guy is not up on collector prices and such, and was just selling some old film gear. i'm not sure who said it was repainted...but i seriously doubt it. as for value...i paid $455 on ebay, and that was taking a chance as the photos were HORRIBLE. i took a chance and lucked out w/ the seller. he had lowish feedback at the time, and bad photos. but he ended up being a great guy, and the lens was nice. it further had a full overhaul by dag to the tune of $65 (or 85...i can't remember). finally...didn't it come w/ the LTM -> M adaptor? i thought so. anyhow...i hope this clears some things up. at the end of the day i could be completely wrong, and it could be painted. i just seriously doubt it based on who it was acquired from.

thanks for the info ryan!

it doesn't look painted but i have no experience with painting lenses so can't say for sure.
i thought the cap was original, it looks vintage for sure.

it's all moot for now, i put the sale on hold about 30 minutes ago.

joe

you're welcome 🙂

yeah...it's vintage alright, i just can't guarantee it came w/ a camera lens originally, as research i've done has indicated they used those on enlarging lenses too. it was REALLY hard to track that cap down...took me weeks! and they had 2...i got the older one. so maybe i (you) got lucky, and it is an original one for the camera lens. maybe not. but it sure works fine (which is what i was after).

good man on halting the sale. it kills me seeing this go again, as i have had bits of regret of selling it. but again...i got bigger fish to fry right now 😉

it can be taxing, emotionally, seeing gear come and go and knowing you had a part in it's history.
the cap is nice as is the case but they both sit in my storage box, along with the filter as i don't use them.

this was the least used bit of gear that i had to help finance the new 40 and knowing i would be able to get another 28 in the future, i thought it the best way to go.
but the cv 40 is coming on credit and i can hold off for a month or so and then pay my most generous benefactor. i just didn't really want to hold off at all, if possible.

i can't even blame my impatience on youth...😉
