I dont know if there any more people here who still have an interest in photos (big sarcastic smile
) but as of this writing in 13 days the Pingyao International Photography Festival will begin again. Pingyao is a huge old town, heavily rebuilt "old style" for tourism purposes and for the most part is pretty damn dull, but every year the daddy of photo exhibitions takes place here turning more of the old city into one huge exhibition. This is no small show, last year Robert Frank himself was there, and thats just the beginning of it. A week is not enough time to see all the exhibition that go on there, also at night there are great personal presentations that take place by some of the biggest names in the business.

There really is a little of something for everyone, for the gear nuts different companies have displays of their products, the Canon booth every year proves to be worth a few minutes to walk through. PhaseOne has an interesting set up there and so did many many others. Photo exhibitions have everything from street to fashion to wedding photography (last years wedding pictures were spectacular).
A while ago I did a little post about my Zeiss 50 Planar lens, many of those photos I took in Pingyao, there is a lot of neat things to see there and its worth the horrific trip that I have to take to get there. I hope someone on this board will be there besides me, because while everyone is sitting on the edge of their seats for Photokina (me too) there is another great photo show going on here in China, and dont think that this is a Chinese only event, so many of the people you see in Pingyao are not Chinese and it really is a huge melding of cultures through photography worthy of any photography fans attention.

Too bad the English website gives so little info. This is right around the corner and there is no comprehensive list of exhibits, etc. Or maybe I'm not finding it.

Yeah the english site sucks, with so many foreigners there I dont know why they dont make it better. Buuuut the exhibition list will be as long as my arm so its worth a look none the less for anyone out there who might happen to be in this part of the world then.
