Hi everybody,
I'm planning a short winter trip to Prague, for the end of november, and I know many members here went there for their holydays, so I'd like to ask some tips about cheap places to sleep, good restaurants, places to visit that are not on the guides etc, etc.
So, feel free to post here either your impressions about Prague and the photos took there.
Many thanks,
ciao
Nico

Hey, I should make a RFF photographer's guide for people coming to visit here. I'll give you some feedback soon. I'm living here for almost 5 years so that might help a bit! I'm too sleepy now, though, to write anything long and with sense.

ciao!

Hi.
It’s a wonderful place, plenty of great shooting opportunities and very nice beer. If you’re in the mood to look for FSU gear, have a look at FotoSkoda, Vodickova 37, near the Wenceslas Square. Their shelves are a pleasure for the eyes and in my experience they are competent & honest sellers. They have also inexpensive Foma films (rolls and bulk). There is also another good shop in the opposite side of the same street – can’t remember the name.
Have a nice trip
Joao

RF: Zorki-1, Zorki-4, Fed-5, Sokol (Automat, 2), Junost, Iskra
TLR: Komsomolyets, Lubitel-2, Lubitel 166B, Flexaret
SLR: Zenit (3M, E, EM, ET, TTL, 12XP, 122K,19, Photosniper), Kiev-10, Olympus OM-2
Other: FED-50, Kiev35A, Smena (7, 8M), Estafeta
...and counting

first of all, I don't know a cheap place to sleep, sorry.
We had a holiday-flat from a friend.

Some of my photos you can see behind the link:

http://hupfer-fotografie.de/prag2006.html

But these are not 1% of the 7 filmrolls,
and the most sensual only works on a barytprint.

If you are in Prague visit the Sudek-Museum at uyezd street (38)
and the studio at úvoz street beside hradcany,
have a look at the small film if they may show it to you
and then discover the city.
Don't go to the touristc mile,
have a look in the small streets and the buildings beside.
Forget the karluv-most, its only for tourists and nothing than boaring.

Have fun, test bohamian meal and some glases beer....

I am also planing to go on my 2 week christmass holiday in europe, but I really don`t know were to go, maybe Prague? 😀

The shop on the other side of the street is Jan Pazdera foto. They have some nice bodies (either Kiev or FED/Zorki) but unfortunately no lenses for rangefinders. If you want lenses, you better try your luck at FotoSkoda (noticed there a good looking silver J-12 in contax mount) and it's one of the rare places where you can try out a Russar-MR2 20/5.6 in LTM or an Orion-15.+

Anyway, whoever is coming in Prague, let me know, i'll be glad to meet and share a beer !

nico, a friend of mine rents out a flat right in he middle of the city for a very reasonable price. that was where my wife and i stayed. it is also convenient to some good restaurants and he owns a club right at the basement of his building (yah, he owns the building, too. 😉 ). PM me if you are interested.

I haven't been to Prague for 10 years or more, so I can't recommend places to stay, it's all changed too much, but I spent a lot of time there in the early 90s, before the tourists arrived in their millions, and it's a beautiful and magical place. At that time, it was one of my favourite cities in the world, and for a photographer it's full of opportunities. The women are beautiful too 🙂

It's not expensive, imho. Btw, about exhibitions, I've got a meeting this weekend about planning my exhibition. Should start within 2-3 weeks in a famous music club here in the center of Prague 😉

By the way, winter has started, this is our first snow day! 😀

Ciao Max,
grazie per la disponibilità!
But there's no hurry, because I just discovered that Easyj**.com has a new flight from Milano Malpensa to Prague at the cheapest price I found on the net.
Regular flights will start from the half of december so i won't be in Prague before that period. At least I can decide to be there right after Xmas holidays.
Anyway, your tips will surely be useful and then I hope to share a beer with you in Prague. 🙂
grazie e a presto!
