I confess: sometimes I like to use my cameras without film. When I have a new camera in my collection I always try everything, play with it and imagine a photographic situation etc. Even I like to find a mirror and check the outside look of the camera in my hands etc.

I'm positive this is a normal thing and helps a lot because you can use your camera better but I just do it because it's so funny!

Do you like to use your camera without film? 🙂)

Who doesn't?

I often mess with all my cameras of an evening. Sometimes I get frustrated if they have film in them as I can't fire the shutter and open them up.

As long as you're not doing it naked in the garden I reckon it's fine. 😉

But honestly, this a a kind of thing that a digital user can not undrerstand. When they are playing with the camera they can shoot, no problem, and check the result.

I know what you mean. A little bit of the magic is lost.
I have a digital SLR and rarely use it and hardly ever get it out of its case to mess with it.

I kinda fancy a R-D1 but I worry I'll feel the same about it as my digi SLR.

I always "fondel" My cameras. It is quite natural. Right now I have a Leica 3C, G2, and an Argus on my desk to "fondel". What about the rest of you what cameras do you have within reach.

Now, let us not forget the words (or a close approximation thereof) of the great Lancelot Vining in his seminal My way with the miniature.

"when you first get your miniature (35mm) camera, sit in your favourite chair, fill your pipe or light a cigarette and go through all the camera's functions before you load film."

So you see, it's OK to do this, but only if you smoke at the same time 😀

Fondling the camera without film leads to several disorders: white hair growing on your palms, mental illness, insomnia and ultimately death. It is sinful activity that will bring shame to you and your family.
