Please ... can we limit the daily gallery upload to something sensible?

The new gallery layout is terrific though it did take a little getting used to .... I like the dropdown menus and the over all look is pretty classy IMO and I thank Jorge for his efforts to move us into a more modern layout.

However, and I'm not singling anyone out here, to open the gallery main page and find that someone has uploaded over twenty images in one hit because they can is not doing the gallery justice. A twenty four hour maximum of five was sensible and a slight increase in that would have been fine but twenty five is over the top. I don't want to look at a page of one person's images when I click on the link.

YMMV of course.

Once the page loads, I poke the more button and they vanish.

True and I do exactly the same thing ... I just feel it's a bit tough on newer members who are often fairly shy and reluctant to show their work. They finally pluck up the courage to post a couple of images in the gallery only to have them disappear off the main page when someone follows up with the carpet bombing technique that is now allowed.

Prime reason I don't use or peruse these galleries...too much "fluff" weighing down or hiding the really great images.

[sarcasm]

I think the gallery should be moderated by a panel of members with exquisite taste.

Any volunteers? :D

[/sarcasm]

On a more serious note ... I think people have the right to post any image they want fluff or otherwise and to critcise a certain content of the gallery is only going to make newer members more reluctant to upload anything.

I didn't mean to sound rude by calling it "fluff" but I like to think that RFF of all places has a fairly 'advanced' user base that realizes editing work is as important as anything else photography related. What you dont show is as important as what you do show.

I don't see people here as being the kind who print a couple hundred pictures of the same holiday beach such as the less-informed populace might. It should be no different when it comes to uploading, no?

Sorry Harry I wasn't getting at you regarding the term 'fluff' ... I just think that whatever is in the gallery is fine provided we accept that everyone has their own interpretation of their images.

I often look at something and think "Why did you bother?" :D

Which is a little unfair!

I didn't join the gallery until after the change, yet seeing that message "You have unloaded x of your limit of 25 per hour" was part daunting (did the really serious posters load hundreds a day?) and part ridiculous.

I aim for 5-7 at a go, but more than once have overstepped that limit in a day--in part to make up for lost time, though that is my own cross to wear. 5 per day (20 per week max) would force us to be more selective. I'd support that.

That figure makes sense and when you think about it, it allows someone to upload thirty five to forty images per week.

We're not flickr and we're not a hosting site ... it's the RFF gallery for members to display their efforts if they choose to do so.
