I recently purchased a G2 & love it but am confused as to the usage of the AEL setting - please help!

Auto Exposure Lock. Basically, you can take an exposure reading, move the dial to AEL, and you can lock it so it won't shift or change. If you change aperture, the reading will still change in this mode as well.

Custom function no.1 also changes how it works.
Option #0 = "Autoexposure is locked when the main switch is moved to the "AEL" position"
Option #1 = "Autoexposure is locked when you depress the shutter release halfway (except when using dedicated flash.) If the main switch is moved to "AEL," it takes priority over the release switch."
