I'm thinking of making a hard case for my camera gear. I figured I can get a cheap aluminium case somewhere and then get some pluckible foam inserts. To my surprise, the foam inserts from Pelican are quite expensive. However, I found some cheap pluckible foam made for army figurines (for those board games) from 'ArmyTransport' for about $8 a sheet and they available available in various thicknesses. I'm wondering if these are suitable for camera gear. Has anybody here used these before?

Here's is the website where I found them:

This looks like the standard pluck foam, same as you get in Pelican cases, although some Pelican foam might be thicker. Don't forget that there usually is a bottom layer that is not pluckable, so you can really only create a hole that's 3-3 1/2 inches deep (7-8 cm), depending on the thickness of the bottom layer. I've also seen some of these foam inserts where the bottom layer is detached -- you can make a hole all the way through, and you buy another layer of non-pluckable foam to use as the bottom padding. Thanks for this source, by the way --- I need some of this stuff.
