So I had long planned on getting a polaroid pack film back for my Mamiya RZ, and when Fuji discontinued I quickly bought some packs before the price exploded. Of course I also ordered the film back.

I foolishly bought a style of back which is clearly different from all the examples I can find in online videos. I will say at the outset that the seller is being very nice and says I can send it back for an exchange. However, to quote the Grinch, I have puzzled over this thing until my puzzler is sore, and I would appreciate knowing HTF this thing is supposed to work.

First, here are some captures from this fellow's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7MAoCkO4DI) which shows the style of back I DON'T have. This guy's has 'Polaroid' logo in white lettering, mine does not. I show here a sequence of captures from his video (yeah, I am sure I am violating something), which clearly show that his back has TWO hinged parts, the main section where the back's dark slide goes, and a separate bit that clamps down on the white tabs and the black slider from the film pack:

The white tabs and the protective black slide from the film pack both emerge from the same slot.

Now here is what I have:

There is only ONE hinged part, the big section that has the back's dark slide. There is a channel (I guess) the white tabs and the film packs black slide are meant to emerge from, and in fact they do if you insert the film pack and close the back. But this channel is located ABOVE the rollers and the little door in front of them. According to the seller, when I pull the first white tab, the exposed film will 'emerge' through that little door, which has a very stiff spring-loaded hinge. No way, the white tab just breaks off, which is what my mechanical intuition tells me should happen. As you can see I have already wasted one of these precious packs.

Clearly I don't understand how this is meant to be used. Can any of you wonderful and knowledgeable people provide some insight before I send this back?

Thanks!!

Randy

pull the rollers and clean them, could be frozen/stuck from dried chem goo. also your is th elder style with wire clip. I have several Polaroid back fro my Hasselblad and they're either newer style with plastic flip lock or older wire lock.

So you think the exposed film really should just pop through that door?

It was supposed to have been cleaned, but I will examine the rollers .

Thanks! Randy

Pop the rollers out. If you see residue (dired goo) anywhere scrub with hot water and an old toothbrush. Dry and reinstall.

yup. that door is right beside the rollers. there are instructions on the back explaining how to remove the rollers. a wet paper towel or something will do in most cases. I've taken the rollers apart for thorough cleaning but you may not need to go that far.
