Oxford English Dictionary:
Snapshot
An informal photograph taken quickly, typically with a small handheld camera.

I have always been impressed at how quickly people have been able to get shots off with their Barnack Leica in situations where the subject(s) is moving very quickly. It makes me admire war correspondents of the era so much more and it is a skill I am still trying to master.

Anyone have any of these kinds of shots they'd like to share?

It is quirky. For obvious technical reasons.

But I was able to find one:

Toronto.

IIf with FED 50 3.5.

IIIG but this wasn't about shooting fast. It was pre-setting and anticipating the action so that when it happens you just have to hit the shutter. Works for most any camera, not just Barnacks. If you can't anticipate the action you keep the exposure settings updated for the light and preset the focus for hyperfocal or for a specific distance and watch for something to develop at that distance.

indeed, Barnacks are quite special
I just no longer have the patience for loading film in them
Sometimes it's with ease, other times You could rip your hair out
or should I say the film out !

The Captain Did Not Approve of Cameras!!!! Here I risked it shooting a shot from inside my uniform coat!! Here’s ol’ Cap getting ready to chaw down on some hardtack. This event was a “tactical”, no spectators on a rainy day in March, years ago. Shot with my first Leica , a IIIc and Summar. The picture here is of an 8x10 print I done at the time (1988). By accident, the negative was printed backwards ;-)

Try the f/8 (or f/11) and be there guideline. Makes for less cumbersome and spontaneous shooting.

If you are OK with a clone try and find a Tower 45 and it is easier.
