This should be fun!

Not only am I wondering who owns a Nikon F6, but would like to see what you actually shoot with it.

Dave, the film is Fuji Fortia SP slide film and the lens is an AF-S 24mm f1.4. You can see the shutter speed and aperture used printed in red to the left of the photo.

Hi Dave,

I posted this thread ages ago ... all shot with an F6, 24-120 Nikkor f4 G and Plus-X film.

Cheers ..... LINK

Thanks, Jon...I am planning a Summer of Love (love for film, that is...) and will be, hopefully, shooting plenty of black and white with the Leicas. I wish I had an F6 for a short while to experience that technology, but I can live vicariously through you guys!;)

I am really looking forward to some film fun!

Hey, Keith!

I tried my best to search for the original thread but didn't succeed. It has been ages since you and I have talked, too. Good to see ya back.;)

Thanks for the Link, I am just in the mood for something different for a change. Having never even held an F6, I still wonder about one. Oh, wait, that's how I got hooked into Leica....

They are a very seductive camera IMO ... the way they sit in the hand, the shutter sound and the incredible build quality.

And ... they take fabulous cat photos! :D

Oh yeah, that was a great thread, Keith. I've been thinking of getting an F4s myself, so I'd be able to use all my glass on it. Now that would be a bag to haul around. And I don't have all that much glass, like some folks do.

Dave, I thought you were done with Nikons earlier this week :)

I'm tempted to try ownership of an F6. I have used one before and to me it was like an F100 with F5 type build. The F5 does feel more robust though and to my mind focus is faster. That's probably down to the way the F5 focus motor works though. F6 is supposed to be a little brighter in the finder but I thought they were identical. The main reason for me to get one are the focus points.
I really wish it took AA's though.
I've put a FOR TRADE ad up 'boxed M2 for F6' if anyone's got one in Europe.

It has always amazed me how much different my F6 feels in the hand compared to my D700 ... the digital is a huge lump and feel so different to the F6. Side by side they don't look that much different. The film camera has a balance in the hand that is lacking in the DSLR.

So far pictures are nice but could be made with any other SLR, showing mostly vision of photographer. How about digging out examples showing some unique characteristics of F6 - like 1/8000th or it's durable construction <and list goes on> - without which picture wouldn't be taken or would look different?

1/8000 and even more durable construction already were in the F4/F5. If we believe Nikon, the F6's improvements to meter and AF will make it deliver a higher percentage of accurately exposed and focused images than the F5 or F4. But I know no photographer whose main concern were focus and exposure, even when handling all-manual cameras.

Nor have I ever seen a picture that really required 1/8000 rather than 1/2000, the more so given that the slit travel speed (not the exposure time) is the true critical factor when photographing objects in fast motion with a FP shutter. And the travel speed barely doubled from 3,25m/s (horizontal) to 6m/s (vertical) between F2 and F4-F6.

Ha...I am except for the curiosity part. Life is short and I would like to experience some of the more "exotic", end of the line (maybe the best of the particular model), photographic tools. I may be done with Camry's but I would love to try a Toyota 2000GT.

Alas, dreams only as the cost is too dear. Besides, I am quite happy with the Leicas in my life.:)

More Photos please!!! You folks always post great images.

It will be interesting to see what types of photos are typically made with the F6 by our RFF owners. I wonder if the types would be significantly different than with a rangefinder...or if more color photos than black and white.

I have been shooting the M3 so long that color never enters my mind. Nor do photos requiring more tele than a 50mm lens.

Back when I had the F5 and the D1D2 bodies, I needed quite different lenses because I was shooting motorsports, football, soccer and baseball. No more. So, that is why I am interested in who shoots what with the, arguably, best SLR ever made by Nikon.

I think people confuse best Nikon SLR with last Nikon SLR. I think it's the best but what the hell would I know? I've only tried two others ... the FM3A and D90s.

I can probably tell you what the best OM is though! :D
