Snorting silver salts
A thread with shots made with uncoated or pre-war Leica glass. Looking forward to seeing those Summar, Elmar, Hektor, Elmax? shots!

I don't own any pre-war Leica glass, and I haven't shot much w/ borrowed pre-war glass either, but I took this one a few years ago w/ an uncoated 90 Elmar from 1936 (I've posted this one before):

Summar and Elmar and ....
... Hektors! 50/2.5, 73/1.9, 135/4.5.
Summar 50/2.0
Elmar 50/3.5
Elmar 90/4.0
And the ultra-rare very early Elmax 50/3.5, but I never saw any of those yet.

Hi,
Summitar was April 1938 or 39 again from memory. I've advert's dated September 1939 announcing them and saying how much better it is that the Summar. Not the best time to announce a new Leica lens in England...
Regards, David
PS I'll try and dig out some Summar uncoated ones.

I found this link with serial number>date info. Not sure of the accuracy.
Elmar 35mm, scan from a print

Another one with the Elmar, scan from negative.

Summitar 50mm, scan from negative.

Lots more from these two lenses on flickr.

The Leitz 5cm F1.5 Xenon is also pre-war.
The Summitar was introduced just before the war, as stated. It was introduced to improve use with color film, according to the Leica Manual by Morgan and Lester. I need to shoot the Nickel Summar on the M9, it has very clean glass. I end up using my Pre-war Zeiss glass with the M9 much more than the Leica glass.

Are some Elmar 90/4 post-war and some pre-war?
The uncoated Black 90/4 Elmars are most likely pre-war. Like the one you (Raid) had.

I sold the chrome Elmar but kept the black Elmar because it is older
