I am in the market for a LS5000. The prices at Amazon were $4000. What in the heck is going on. Is this the going aftermarket price for this item? does anyone have any sources for this kit?
Thanks

They are out of production now.
Used prices have gone through the roof.
Checking ebay, there have been recent sales as high as US$2800+.
A few months ago, a used one would have sold for not more than $900.
I wouldn't pay much more than that.
Have heard good things about the Plustek top of the line scanners but I have no experience there.
Good luck!

these could well be fake sales, exbay is notoriously unreliable. Better go and buy one second-hand scanner from a proper dealer, with a proper warranty.
Look for a Minolta 5400 I/II, they are better performers (I have bought one after sending a nikon ls5000 back).

I have written a summary of the availability/price on my blog:

Easier for those who seeking one.
Sometimes KEH has offers with fair prices.

I just put mine up for sale for $1700 figuring I would have to spend a week bumping the classified and lowering the price. It sold in ten minutes.

I am almost thinking that I should sell mine at these prices... but then what are the alternatives?
Maybe I'll just get an Epson flatbed; it is good enough to put scans on flickr, and I can scan real prints for the occasional good shots.

The price is just too much for these scanners. V750 here we come!
For everyones benefit, I did find a pretty interesting german website reviewing scanners. www.filmscanner.info (scandig)

You can buy a used Howtek Drum for that much lol. Stupid prices.
For that matter scancafe.com would work, or getting the film scanned when processed with one of the good Kodak film scanners.
