Probably been asked before - Does the VC 15mm f4.5 (ltm) fit the Canon 7?

Hi

I've been a lurker here for a while, but this is my first ever post. I've searched for quite some time to find an answer to this question but have not yet come across anything online...

I recently acquired a Canon 7 and am looking to get a super-wide that is compatible with it. Has anyone had any experience in mounting the Voigtlander 15mm f4.5 on a Canon 7? Are there any issues with the light baffles interfering with the rear of the lens at all?

If the 15mm Super Wide-Heliar is incompatible, what are the widest options out there?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Many Thanks

Peter

I can't say for sure, but I'd be shocked if it was not compatible with the 7. The back element of the 15/4.5 is not all that deep and not that large in diameter (compared to say a J-12). I've used the 15/4.5 CV on a Canon VI-L with no problems. The VI-L is a close ancestor of the 7.

Both the 15f4.5 and the 12f5.6 in Ltm mount fits the Canon 7 (just tried them on mine) biggest problem is that you don't have 'shoe" on the 7 so putting the finder on it is tricky. There is a "bar" that can be attached to the camera and then you get a shoe for the finder - but it is clumsy and fairly rare (and expensive). You can of course shoot without the finder and figure how much acreage you get n (a lot!) or have a shoe fitted to the camera (either crudely do it yourself with glue - or have some tech take of the top-plate and attach a shoe with proper screws.

Peter, you don't have to spend a lot of money to mount an accessory finder on most any camera unless you want to. I have before me a simple plastic adapter (made in Germany). It has a shoe on the top and a tripod bolt on the bottom. Bet you can figure out what to do with it! Yeah, I know your tripod socket is off center and you'll have to hold the camera upside down, but hey, if you can find one of these things it should be dirt cheap.
Expanding on Tom A's idea to permanently add a shoe, putting one on the center of the bottom plate should be simpler than taking off the top plate. You might even be able to put it in its case, but no guarantees.

I knew that I had one of the Canon Couplers somewhere and this post gave the incentive to dig it up. It is quite clumsy in use - as you have to remove it to rewind the film.

Clumsy? Maybe, but, for me, no more clumsy that changing film in my old Nikon M (where do you put the back once it’s off?).

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the great response, I wasn't expecting so many replies in such a short time! My canon 7 actually came with the accessory coupler as part of the deal, so I guess i got kinda lucky in that way.

I think I might take the plunge and buy the 15mm lens then seeing as it seems to fit with no issues.

Really liking the black 7 you have Tom, and it's great to see a fellow Vancouver member!

Thanks once again

Peter

Peter, if you live close to Kits - feel free to join in the camera nuts congregating. Friday mornings it is at Cafe Zen (Yew street - 2 blocks up from the beach) - usually 8,30'sh for breakfast. Then there is Aphrodite's on West 4th Avenue -one block east from Alma. 5-6 of us get together for coffee and some eat dinner to (or pie) Usually around 5,30 pm until about 7.
