Hi Raid.
Enjoy that camera!
I use a luigi half case with a rear swing door. Works good.

P.S. Loved your postcard.

Thanks. So there is no need for a cover?

I keep the half case on all the time. I think the M8 screen is the same as the M9. I think the M8 upgrade was a tough sapphire screen. I guess it comes down to how you transport your camera. Mine lives in the half case and gets thrown into any camera/handbag that I am using on the day. If I did not have the half case I would probably use some sort of screen protector.

How do you use the M8 with half case on it?

There is a screen by Schott for $25. I will start with that one. I have a Zhou half case for the M8.

Hello Raid, this Giotto screen saver (glass by Schott) is all you will ever need. Once this might get scratched within 5 years of heavy use, just get a new one.

I use a cheap plastic lcd cover film, never had a problem. Possibly from screen patronus?

I use a Giottos (Schott glass) LCD protector on my M9, but I also use a Luigi half case on it most of the time. It's easier to grip and keep steady that way: I find the body a little slippery especially when my hands are chilly.

Aftermarket plastic screen replacement? Where is it?
Aftermarket plastic screen replacement? Where is it?
The digital M has been out since 06 and I have yet to see an after market plastic LCD cover replacement. This thing is held in with an adhesive strip! That is how Leica does it. I see all kinds of replacement kits for Nikon and Canon DSLR's . Why not replace the plastic protector when it gets too scratched up to see through yourself. Someone needs to make this!

I used a GGS one similar to the Giottos (made of Schott Glass)

Raid - I started out with a Giottos/ Schott : after about 10 days it looked like this
following an encounter with a spare lens in my coat pocket. Had to take it 70 miles to nearest Leica dealer to get the darn thing removed. So then I left it uncovered, until I scratched it (wiped it on my t-shirt, not noticing a few grains of sand had got stuck there) and had to send it to Solms and paid €220 to get LCD and surrounding metalwork replaced.
Now I have one of these fitted (recommended by JaapV and others in this thread). Seems to me the better solution, and cheap/easy to replace if need arises
Enjoy your M8

If you need to have a protector I suggest getting one of the film ones. The glass protector always ends up cracking. If not in use then when you try to remove it for sure. I had a film protector on my M8 that read on there for a few years. I currently have no protector on my M9. There isn't much of a difference.yeah there are a few superficial scratches but nothing you'll notice when the screen is actually on.

My LCD screen popped off one day while I was sitting in a diner on the lower east side having breakfast and almost landed in my coffee. No kidding..
I taped it back on with strips of gaffers tape for about a year and eventually sent it to Leica NJ for replacement.
They sent it back with a film cover- it had one on- and an extra cover.
It was costly, however they did it in 7 days door to door.

These are all useful tips. I will first try out the Schott glass cover, and if I find faults with it, I can try the plastic one for which the link is given above.

I'm using a $1.50 plastic screen cover for protection and works like a charm. Have fun with your M8.
