My QL19 battery compartment is a bit different than those I've seen posted here. I am wondering what kind of battery I need to get to use the camera's meter.

Here are some pics:

I'm about ready to ebay this camera and try to pick up another version, as I've had it 6 months and have just about given up finding the right battery. You are my last hope 🙂

TIA, Maz

Full details here. http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/index.htm?http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/sbc_lr50.htm

You can can battery adapters or calibrtae the meter for the increased voltage. The latter is not the best solution as I have yet to come across a silver version of the battery and the discharge curve for alkalines is not very flat. It's probably OK for print film but I would use a handheld for Slide.

I am not positive, but I think the original battery was a 1.3v mercury RM1 battery. I don't know what the modern substitue is. Good luck.

I use the Kanto/ C.R.I.S adapter w/ Silver Oxide batteries and have NO problems. However, Kanto (Japan) has been more friendly to deal w/ than C.R.I.S (USA).

Suggest search B&H for mercury battery or wein cell. Not sure if your size is covered, but there's a good chance.

The MR1 is an odd size battery. I don't think there is a wein cell alternative. You could get away with using a zinc/air of the right diameter and using packing. Because of the size of the battery, making an adapter should be much easier than for the more normal size cells. I haven't tried that route but only because John Neal made one for me.

It looks like you have the first version QL - this needs a Mercury PX1a cell that is no longer available.

I can make you an adapter to use the widely available SR44 cell (same as the Cris one, but much cheaper). Send me a PM if you are interested.
